Recall Alert: 2003-2005 Range Rovers Recalled for Possible Driveshaft Troubles

Land Rover Range Rover Front Drivers Three Quarters View

Quite a few owners of the 2003 to 2005 model year Range Rover experienced a strange failure: the front driveshaft.

The problem lies in the front coupling. If misaligned, the driveshaft experienced extreme stress which would result in spline wear, shearing, and, ultimately, failure. When this happens the transmission loses lock, allowing movement when the vehicle is put in Park. The problem was so prevalent that RangeRover.net, a Land Rover enthusiast's website, has a full page dedicated to diagnosing and resolving the issue.

Early this month, Land Rover issued a recall for an estimated 19,168 afflicted vehicles. Dealers will receive revised parts, and will fix vehicles at no charge. Land Rover claims that 48% of these vehicles have been proactively repaired and customers will be reimbursed for the expense.
