Five Hybrid SUVs That Actually Save You Money

One of the biggest arguments against purchasing and owning a hybrid SUV are the higher costs of acquisition and ownership. IntelliChoice.com recently conducted an exclusive study for CNN Money to determine which hybrid SUVs would actually be considered a better value by comparing project five-year ownership costs for specific vehicles with an average of expected costs for similarly priced SUVs, both hybrid and regular. The costs included factors such as fuel, depreciation, maintenance, and finance costs. Comparing ownership costs makes the comparisons more accurate by comparing real-life costs, including rebates and tax incentives, rather than just the cost of the vehicles themselves.

The five hybrid SUVs that beat comparable expectations are the following:

- Saturn VUE Green Line with an IntelliChoice 5-year savings of $3797
- Chevy Tahoe Hybrid with an IntelliChoice 5-year savings of $3733
- Ford Escape Hybrid with an IntelliChoice 5-year savings of $2489
- Toyota Highlander Hybrid with an IntelliChoice 5-year savings of $1360
- Dodge Durango Hybrid with an undetermined amount of savings due to lack of official EPA fuel-economy figures, but should be similar to the Tahoe Hybrid
