BorgWarner is putting its new Cam Torque Actuated (CTA) variable cam timing technology into Ford's upgraded Duratec 3.0L V.6 engine, set to be released in the 2009 Ford Escape. The new technology will improve engine performance and increase fuel economy while reducing emissions, a win-win-win situation for Ford and consumers.

The innovating cam timing technology uses existing torsional energy in the valvetrain to rotate the camshaft, versus traditional cam phasing methods where engine oil pressure is used. CTA cam phasers operate more efficiently than traditional oil pressure actuated cam phasers, working more quickly and over a wider range of engine speeds and temperatures compared with traditional phasers.

Alfred Weber, president and general manger of BorgWarner Morse TEC, announced his pleasure in introducing the CTA technology on the 2009 Ford Escape: "As carmakers strive to meet drivers' demands for performance and fuel economy while complying with increasingly stringent emissions regulations, the new BorgWarner CTA technology for variable cam timing has emerged as an important option for optimizing the method of achieving variable cam timing. The CTA technology is a great growth opportunity for BorgWarner. We are please to introduce it on Ford's Duratec engine."
