Ford F-Series Pickup Trucks Led July 2008 SalesAugust 29, 2008 By Benson Kong Photography by the Manufacturer
A recent SEMA study has found that pickup sales are down 26% compared with the same period in 2007, with the drop mainly attributed to the rising cost of fuel. Additional SEMA studies found that 57% of pickup enthusiasts bought their vehicles used, meaning the money saved by purchasing used pickups at depreciated market values leave more money available for aftermarket parts and accessories. The majority of pickup owners chose their vehicles because of personal need: 50% said they go camping or hiking, 49% went hunting, fishing, or shooting, 47% go off-roading, and 32% go boating or sailing. The top profession of pickup drivers was "skilled trade," where a pickup is required. Additional data shows that 12% of all registered vehicles in the United States are full-size pickups. The table below shows the top 20-selling pickups of July 2008 compared to their sales in 2007.
