The 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander was recently tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway and came out on top. Following receipt of the "good" ratings (the best rating) for tests of the front, side, and back crash tests, the Outlander was awarded a "Top Safety Pick." The crossover SUV's 2009 model will feature the same safety architecture as the 2008 model and will be available at dealers in September.

Dan Kuhnert, executive vice president of sales and marketing, lauded the Outlander for its accomplishments: "When you add Outlander's superior crash protection to its combination of styling, performance, fuel efficiency, and value, it doesn't take a back seat to any vehicle in the crossover segment. We're extremely pleased that the IIHS has confirmed our commitment to safety."
