Frontier Goes Pro, Xterra Goes With
By Editors of Truck Trend
Nissan updates the 2009 Frontier with new wheels, front-end styling, a PRO-4X off-road model (no more NISMO), and a Crew Cab LE/PRO-4X value truck package.
The PRO-4X runs Bilstein shock absorbers, additional skidplates for oil pan and transfer case, electronic rear differential lock, two- or four-wheel limited-slip (ABLS), and unique 16-inch alloys and BFGoodrich P265/75R16 Rugged Trail tires. Inside it gets red stitching for the steering wheel and manual shifter plus chrome accents, while the exterior adds body-colored appendages, foglamps, spray-on bedliner with rail caps, and the Utili-track cargo-management system.
The PRO-4X Crew Cab value package adds unique black leather power, heated front seats, dual heated outside mirrors, and rear fold-down center armrest. Both King and Crew Cab continue with the VQ 4.0-liter V-6, rated 261 horsepower and 281 pound-feet, with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic.
2009 Xterras get the same front-end restyle, and its Off-Road package adds off-road lights mounted into the roof-rack air deflector, new seat upholstery, and standard side-curtain airbags. Most 2009 Xterras will offer Technology Package bits like Rockford Fosgate audio, XM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth, steering-wheel audio controls, and an input jack at no extra charge.
