Road Test: 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser
GT CRUISER
Looking to jump-start the aftermarket industry, Chrysler built this hot GT Cruiser concept for the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association's show in Las Vegas. Setting the tone for modifications, the GT version pushes the PT styling in a muscular direction with enlarged fender flares, smoothed bumper gaps, dual exhaust, lowered stance, and 17-inch wheels. The most significant element is the powertrain, where Chrysler bolted a turbocharger to the 2.4-liter engine, boosting horsepower output from a stock 150 up to approximately 200. Torque rose from 162 to 225 pound-feet, ensuring tire-smoking launches that simply aren't in the naturally aspirated car's repertoire. Chrysler hopes both the aftermarket and consumers embrace the PT Cruiser as a vehicle to customize, and Mopar Parts will support this effort with an impressive array of components available when the PT hits the market.
