Auto News: Redesigned Merecedes-Benz G-Class announced

Mercedes-Benz has stuck with the "Don't fix what isn't broken" approach during its recent subtle restyle of the venerable G-Class SUV. Now in its 28th year of production, the G-Class still looks remarkably similar to the 1979 version, a good thing to many G-Wagen enthusiasts.

Mercedes couldn't help but update a few details here and there, however. The LED-style taillamps are new, for example. And the interior features a redesigned instrument panel with chrome-rimmed gauges, modified center console with fresh switchgear, and a new steering wheel that contains illuminated multi-function buttons that perform a multitude of tasks.

New optional extras are also available on the G-Class, including a rear-view camera, Cognac brown leather upholstery, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a sports exhaust for the long-wheelbase G 500 station wagon.

Orders are being taken now for the new G-Class, with deliveries beginning in April.
