Auto News: Chrysler Aspen Snowdoku Challenge
February 02, 2007
The Chrysler brand is heating up the sudoku craze in the Big Apple by transforming the traditionally solitary game of sudoku into a high-energy, must-see outdoor sporting event called "Chrysler Aspen Snowdoku™ Challenge."
Chrysler is inviting teams of up to eight sudoku puzzle players to New York City on Tuesday, Feb. 27, to find the winning combination of brains and brawn as they go head-to-head to solve a giant, larger-than-life "Snowdoku™" puzzle made entirely out of snow. The best-in-class team that solves the puzzle in the quickest amount of time will win a trip to Aspen, Colo., and will ride in style during their stay in an all-new 2007 Chrysler Aspen, the brand's first sport utility vehicle.
"Sudoku is a national phenomenon that has captivated puzzle fans of all ages. People just can't seem to get enough of it," said Will Shortz, who is the crossword editor for The New York Times and has published more than 40 books of sudoku puzzles. "I think `Snowdoku™' is a great way to make sudoku more interactive. It combines logic, athletics, and teamwork into one big competitive spectacle."
Recruiting a Dream Team"Snowdoku™" dream teams can consist of any combination of players from two to eight, with up to 14 teams selected to compete. Consumers who want to prove that they have the winning combination of talents can register at www.ChryslerAspenSnowdoku.com for a chance to be selected to attempt the frosty feat. Residents who live within a 200-mile radius of New York City can register online, from Tuesday, Jan. 30 until Tuesday, Feb. 20. All participants must be 18 years or older and hold a valid driver's license at the time of entry.
The Main EventThe giant "Snowdoku™" puzzle will feature 81 oversized cells with a specific number of "givens" (cells on the game board that are pre-filled with numbers) to help competitors solve the puzzle. Up to eight team members will "warm up" in the eight-passenger Chrysler Aspen, utilizing the first- and second-row heated seats before they are given 30 minutes to complete the puzzle.
A giant pencil will be placed atop a Chrysler Aspen for use when the team is ready to fill in blank cells on the oversized "Snowdoku™" game board. The puzzle is complete when all of the empty cells have been filled with numbers and the giant pencil is returned to the top of the Chrysler Aspen. The team who completes the entire puzzle correctly, or who fills in the most correct answers, in the shortest amount of time will be declared the best-in-class grand prize winner.
"The all-new 2007 Chrysler Aspen is the brand's first entry into the SUV market," said David Rooney, Director - Chrysler Marketing & Global Communications. "With so many consumers driving the sudoku trend, we thought it would be fun to refine the traditional game -- just as we have refined the traditional SUV -- and challenge consumers to experience a new way to play their favorite number game."
