No, they're not building an even bigger one, at least not yet. However, an Automotive News report says that GM is planning to grow the brand by introducing a truck for 2009.
According to Hummer general manager Martin Walsh, the truck will be highly capable off-road and instantly recognizable as a Hummer. The announcement follows Bob Lutz' comments earlier in the year that the brand needs to expand by two or three models.
Much to the dismay of environmentalists and drivers of small cars, even when gas prices were over $3.00 a gallon, the Hummer brand continued selling strong. According to the report, Hummer's success is attributed to its target market of people that earn over $120,000 a year who are more able financially to absorbe a rise in gas prices.
Earlier in the year, GM opened a Hummer plant in South Africa that will build Hummer models for sale in Europe, Australia and Africa. GM recently introduced the H3 in Western Europe and plans to begin selling it in Australia in South Africa next year.
