The winners of the CIAS Motor Trend International Design Contest were announced during Media Day at the California International Auto Show (CIAS) in Anaheim, CA. Top honors were awarded to Steve Cook, a 38 year-old from Portland, OR. Steve received the award for best of show and a cash prize of $2,500 for his design of a Dodge Charger R/T. Viewed as a highly respected honor by many in the automotive world, this prestigious award is bestowed annually to the designer who best captures the contest theme.

"We're thrilled to be able to award such talented up and coming designers from around the world as there is so much undiscovered skill out there just waiting to be found," said Matt Stone, Executive Editor of Motor Trend. "Each year this prestigious contest attracts hundreds of entries and Motor Trend is proud to present this event with the California International Auto Show that is held in such high esteem by the automotive industry."

The fifth-annual CIAS Motor Trend International Design Contest challenged amateur, student and professional designers to create tuner cars of the year 2020. The designers had to select the make and model of the car and then incorporate modern performance themes to create a year 2020 version of the vehicle. Each design submission included a minimum of three perspectives, including a rendering of the interior that identified the instrumentation and driver controls. Entries also included a brief synopsis explaining how the design was conceptualized, as well as the car's technical and general specifications.

Motor Trend's Executive Editor Matt Stone and chief judge of this year's contest developed this year's contest theme based on the huge appeal of the aftermarket industry and the popularity of the recent "2Fast 2Furious" movie. "Modifying vehicles is an international passion, and the tuner industry is a major influence behind the work taking place in today's design studios," said Stone. "Our judges were just as enthusiastic reviewing the entries as our amateur, student and professional designers were in creating their 2020 tuner designs."

1st place in the Design Professional category was awarded to Luiz Alberto Viega from Sao Paulo, Brazil for his design of the W@gon. Luiz is a self-taught designer who is currently the Design and Package Manager at Volkswagen of Brazil. Viktor Tivadar Sass was awarded top honors in the Design Student category for his design of the Corvette 2020. Viktor is currently a second year industrial design student at the Hungarian University of Arts & Crafts Design.
