The Hummer brand is quickly becoming more of a niche brand than General Motors likely intended it to be. To combat plummeting sales, the 2010 H3 and H3T gain the option of the H3 Alpha's 5.3L E85 Flex Fuel V-8 plus three new colors.

Base prices for the 2010 H3 lineup haven't changed much: the 2010 H3T is $30,915, an H3 is $33,390, and the high-end H3T Alpha is $35,680. The H3T Alpha will see a $335 MSRP decrease while the H3T's price is upped by $165 and the H3's is unchanged. A $780 destination fee is included.

Output for the 5.3L V-8 is unchanged: it produces 300 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. H3s equipped with the engine -- which sends the Hummer from 0-60 mph in an estimated 8.2 sec. -- are mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.

"This is just the first step in HUMMER's evolution to offer responsible, yet highly capable all-terrain vehicles," said James Taylor, HUMMER CEO, in a statement. "Future models will be lighter, more efficient and will continue to offer the best blend of off-road capability and on-road performance."

For 2010, though, potential Hummer H3 buyers will have to be satisfied with the new option of the V-8 engine and those three new colors: Red Rock Metallic, Silver Stone Metallic, and Canyon Metallic. Through October, Hummer sales were down 64.4% with 307 units being sold last month. Will these updates keep the H3, the Hummer volume model, fresh enough to attract new customers?
