When GM announced its memorandum of understanding to sell the Hummer division to Sichuan Tengzhong last spring, it said it would build the H3 and H3T for the Chinese company through 2010. In June, GM announced it would close its Shreveport, Louisiana, assembly plant by June 2012. That factory builds the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Hummer H3/H3T on the same platform. If a post-bankruptcy GM revives plans to replace the Colorado/Canyon for the 2013 model year, it could move production to a closed plant like the Janesville, Wisconsin, factory that assembled Chevy Tahoes and related SUVs until December 2008. It could continue to build the Hummers for Sichuan Tengzhong there, or the new owner may have moved Hummer production to China by then. Or, equally likely, the Chinese government may have rejected the GM-Tengzhong deal and Hummer, the Colorado, and the Canyon may all be dead.
