The diesel drivetrain for the 2009 Audi Q7 costs $4000 over the price of a 3.6 Premium, at $51,725. Add the Premium Plus package to the Q7 TDI, which includes navigation, Bose audio, and back-up camera, and the price increases by $3250. The Prestige pack commands a $5900 premium, and, at $57,625, it is $2420 less the 4.2-liter Prestige top-line model.

Better yet, the Q7 TDI qualifies for an $1150 credit from the IRS Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit, thanks to its 3.0L diesel. Even with 406 lb.-ft. of torque, the TDI returns 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. Those figures, not surprisingly, are on par with the Volkswagen Touareg TDI that won our last diesel comparison, which employs roughly the same engine.

The 2009 Q7 TDI arrives in dealerships this month.

All prices include a required $825 destination charge.
