Honda is looking to improve the Ridgeline pickup truck, namely in the area of fuel consumption. Considering that there are full-size pickup truck options on the market that achieve slightly better fuel economy while providing increased towing and carrying capacities, Honda is on the right path in striving to improve its midsize pickup.
The current Ridgeline, which sits at 4500 lb, will look to improve its fuel figures by saving weight and improving its aerodynamics. Though the Ridgeline utilizes a unibody construction, it weighs just 650 lb less than a V-8-powered, 2WD Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab. Honda is looking at utilizing more lightweight materials, such as aluminum, to reduce weight. It's also looking at reducing the amount of feature content, such as navigation, on lower models. Aerodynamic changes could include steeper raking of the windshield and a smoothing out of the truck's underbody.
Honda hopes to maintain the Ridgeline as a nontraditional truck with unique amenities.
