Recall Alert: 2009 Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia -- Faulty Shift Mechanisms On Automatic Transmission

General Motors issued a recall for 276,729 vehicles over potentially faulty shift mechanisms in vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. While shifting to park, the affected vehicles can remain in-gear. As a result drivers will not be able to restart their vehicle and it may also begin to roll when parked. The culprit is a faulty shift cable adjustment clip.

The recall affects the 2009 model year Buick Enclave; Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR, Malibu and Traverse; GMC Acadia; Pontiac G5 and G6; and the Saturn Aura and Outlook. GM instructs owners to visit their nearest dealership, where mechanics will inspect the shift mechanism and replace the system if required for free.

The recall will begin March 24, but owners can contact GM at http://www.gm.com/gmownercenter/ at any time. Read the recall notice here (PDF).
